UAE records lowest temperature of 3.7°C on Jebel Jais

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) recorded on Sunday the lowest temperature in the country, 3.7°C, on Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah.

The NCM clarified that the minimum temperatures will range between 4°C and 14°C in the coming days, and the maximum will be between 21°C and 25°C, due to an extension of a surface low pressure system accompanied by an extension of a low pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere.

The NCM confirmed that the feeling of low temperatures over the past two days is due to the country being affected by an extension of the low pressure system coming from the north, accompanied by active northwesterly winds, which resulted in an actual drop in temperatures ranging between 7°C and 10°C nationwide.

The northwesterly winds coming from cold areas contributed to increasing the feeling of coldness, indicating that wind activity plays a major role in feeling temperatures lower than the measured values, as high wind speeds may make the feeling of temperatures lower than the actual recorded temperature, the NCM clarified, pointing out that there was a cloud cover during the past period, which increased the feeling of low temperature due to lack of sunlight.

The centre noted that the amount of clouds began to decrease on Sunday, and the wind speed decreased, which led to a relative improvement in the feeling of temperature compared to Saturday and on Friday.

The NCM also indicated that wind directions will change over the next two to three days, with the northwesterly winds receding and turning into southeasterly and easterly winds, which will contribute to a slight rise in temperatures over the coming days.

Regarding humidity, the NCM explained that it is within its normal levels and does not currently have a significant impact on the feeling of the weather due to the cold weather, but the calm winds may lead to the formation of light fog in some areas, especially on Thursday morning, in a limited and ineffective way.

Sea condition may range between moderate and sometimes turbulent with some active winds, according to the NCM that added that there are no indications of influential weather conditions similar to the past condition during the next five to seven days, as the weather is expected to be relatively stable, with the chances of light fog forming remaining in limited areas only.

The NCM expects the weather on Sunday to be generally partly cloudy and low clouds will appear on the islands and some coastal and western areas, with the possibility of rains, with a gradual and slight rise in temperatures.

Monday’s weather is expected to be partly cloudy in general, and some low clouds will appear on the islands and some western regions, humid at night and on Tuesday morning in some coastal and western inland regions, and winds will be northeasterly to southeasterly, light to moderate, sometimes active during the day in the north, with speed ranging from 10 to 20, amounting to 35 km/h, and the waves will be moderate to light in the Arabian Gulf and in the Sea of Oman.

The weather is also expected to be partly cloudy on Tuesday in general, with low clouds appearing on the islands and some western regions, and humid at night and on Wednesday morning in some western regions with the possibility of light fog forming, and north-easterly to southeasterly winds of light to moderate speed, sometimes active, with speed ranging from 10 to 20, amounting to 35 km/h, and the wves will be light to moderate in the Arabian Gulf and light in the Sea of Oman.
