US Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem has said she will recommend a travel ban on several countries that are “flooding” America with criminal activities.

In a post on X, Noem said: “I just met with the President. I am recommending a full travel ban on every damn country that’s been flooding our nation with killers, leeches, and entitlement junkies.”

“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom—not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS. WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE,” she said.

The post was shared by both President Trump and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

However, Noem did not name the countries which she intended the ban to be imposed. BBC quoted the DHS saying that the list would be released soon.

On Monday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that Trump had imposed travel ban several months ago on “third world and failed state” countries and Noem’s suggestion would “widen” that to encompass more nations.

On June 4, the White House listed 19 countries, mainly those in Africa, the Middle East and the Caribbean, facing full or partial immigration restrictions.

Noem’s remarks came days after two National Guard members were shot in Washington DC.

In a previous post, the Homeland Security secretary said 100,000 Afghan nationals entered the US under the Biden-era Operation Allies Welcome programme, and the DHS would overhaul the vetting process.
