Play Store getting Fortnite ends the Epic Games-Google legal saga

Fortnite is available for Android users from Google’s Play Store after being absent for a few years. Epic Games, the developer of the popular game, has been battling both Google and Apple over their App Store policies, which forced the company to publish its app through its website for downloading on these devices.

In fact Epic Games and Google have been fighting the case since 2020 over the latter’s stringent app-linked game purchase commissions which severely dented the former’s revenue model. But the saga has finally come to an end, with both Google and Epic Games finding an amicable solution to let Fortnite be available on Play Store for billions of Android users.

Fortnite Back On Android Store: How It Helps The Gamers

Fortnite coming to the Play Store means you don’t need to resort to sideloading the app from other websites or app stores. Google has started becoming strict with these policies and Epic Games finally has an official channel to reach more users. APK files are an easy way to get apps on Android but the surety of apps from the Play Store is hard to deny.

Having said that, Epic Games has not mentioned if the updates will be rolled out through its own app store or get from the Play Store itself. The update this month means Fortnite is available for both Android and iOS users from their official app stores and that is big news for millions as well as the developer of the game.

Google has other stuff going on behind the scenes, and one of them is the prospect of making AI Mode work in Chrome. The new AI version of search needs you to go to the Search page but integrating it within Chrome could help you use AI in the browser itself. The new option spotted in the Chrome Canary build shows what Google wants to do with AI mode and how it can become more useful by working in Chrome rather than Search.

The purpose of AI mode is to help you with curated content that has been sourced through different websites and summarised for the user on the main page itself. Chrome getting this ability could be as pivotal as the browser gaining agentic AI powers.
