Breaking News Live Updates: SC to hear plea challenging constitutional legality of Bihar SIR today

Breaking News Live Updates: The Supreme Court is set to hear a plea challenging the constitutional legality of Election Commission of India’s SIR exercise undertaken recently in Bihar at 2 PM on Wednesday.

Earlier, during the 75th Constitution Day event at the Samvidhan Sadan on Wednesday, President Droupadi Murmu unveiled the Indian Constitution in nine new languages including Kashmiri, and Bodo. Among the other languages are Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Telugu, Odia and Assamese. Moreover, while addressing the programme, VP Radhakrishnan said that the country’s Constitution reflects India’s collective wisdom and enduring unity.

Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, PM Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Kiren Rijiju, and several other leaders attended the programme at the old Parliament building. President Murmu also addressed the special programme.

Meanwhile, on the anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to the victims and security personnel who lost their lives during the 2008 siege. In a post on X, Shah called the incident a “cowardly” and “heinous” act, and honoured the bravery of the soldiers who confronted the terrorists.

He said terrorism remained a threat not just to one nation but to all of humanity. Shah also asserted that the Modi government’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism continues to receive broad international support, with countries backing India’s efforts to combat terror networks.

In other news, after a brief and marginal improvement on Tuesday, air quality in Delhi-NCR deteriorated sharply again on Wednesday as cold weather returned with heavy pollution. Bawana recorded an AQI of 382, placing it firmly in the ‘Very Poor’ category, while the citywide AQI stood at 363 at 7 am on Tuesday.

Despite the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III remaining in force, pollution levels have shown no meaningful improvement across the region. Wednesday’s spike has once again made outdoor movement hazardous, especially for children, the elderly, and those with respiratory illnesses.

The thick smog hanging over Delhi-NCR has revived familiar winter concerns, with experts warning that conditions may worsen if temperatures continue to drop.
