An explosion ripped through a mosque in Maiduguri, the capital of Nigeria’s Borno state, killing seven worshippers on Wednesday, reported news agency AFP.
Babakura Kolo, a leader of a local anti-jihadist militia, described the incident as a suspected bombing.
While no group has officially claimed responsibility, the region has been the epicenter of a long-standing insurgency by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
