And OU had all but officially sealed its spot in the College Football Playoff.
Behind a defense that allowed next to nothing in the second half, the eighth-ranked Sooners topped No. 22 Missouri 17-6 Saturday afternoon at Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium for a third straight crucial win.
OU (9-2, 5-2 SEC) next hosts LSU on Saturday, Nov. 29, where a win locks it in the CFP.
The Sooners did well to not look past Mizzou, though.
With a 14-6 lead at halftime, OU’s defense clamped down. It held Mizzou to just 8 yards until the drive that fell short on fourth down with the misfired pass in the end zone.
The Tigers had just 122 offensive yards in the second half, 76 until their final desperation drive that ended with an Eli Bowen interception.
And that was enough to allow a sub-par offensive performance with enough wiggle room to keep OU in the CFP race.

Shin, one of the most respected surgeons nationally who works at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and operated on OU football quarterback John Mateer’s hand/thumb earlier this season, is in attendance Saturday for the Sooners’ home game against Missouri.
Shin has gained a cult following halfway across the country in Oklahoma. Oklahoma attorney general and 2026 gubernatorial candidate Genter Drummond even issued an official commendation, praising Shin.
“If he comes to Norman, he’ll really feel it,” Mateer said in October. “He’s probably aware, but it’s hard to really understand until you come here.”
If he hadn’t already, Shin was feeling the love pregame when fans spotted him on the field.

Ahmad Hardy isn’t the biggest dude.
Five-foot-10 and 210 pounds.
But when defenders make contact with the Missouri running back, they find how difficult he is to bring down. Hardy, who leads the nation with 1,346 rushing yards, has a whopping 937 yards after contact, according to Prof Football Focus. Those yards after contact are a nation’s best, too.
What’s more, Hardy has force 71 missed tackles, third-most in the nation according to PFF.
The Sooners’ challenge is clear: Get Hardy on the ground.
The Tigers have a spectacular rushing attack, going for an average of 241.7 rushing yards a game and ranking sixth in the nation. And with starting quarterback Beau Pribula likely unavailable — he has been dealing with the aftermath of a dislocated ankle — Missouri is likely to lean into that run game and Hardy even more.
Good news for OU: Its rush defense ranks fourth in the nation, allowing only 82.2 yards a game.
