Throughout my nine years at Meristation covering the world of technology and lifestyle, if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that user experience is everything. Whether testing the latest smartphone or embarking on a journey, what we’re looking for isn’t just the “specifications,” but how “the product” makes us feel. Royal Caribbean’s Serenade of the Seas may not be one of the largest cruise ships in the world, like the Star of the Seas, but it doesn’t try to be. Its value proposition is clear and distinct: to be a giant window to the world, specifically designed so you don’t miss a second of the scenery.
Unlike mega-ships that feel like floating shopping malls, this ship is designed to connect with its surroundings and its people. With acres of glass incorporated into its design and elevators overlooking the sea, the ship’s architecture is a showcase, especially in the central part, when you stroll along the turquoise shores of the Caribbean, a journey we embarked on this time.
What dining options are available for discerning palates? Food is at the heart of any good trip, and here the offerings are curated and even managed with artificial intelligence, as with its big brother, to offer quality over quantity. If you’re looking for something exclusive, the Chef’s Table offers an intimate experience with wine-paired dinners, ideal for celebrating a special occasion. For lovers of Asian cuisine, Izumi brings the best flavors of the Land of the Rising Sun with impeccable execution (in fact, we consider it the best on the entire ship). However, the gastronomic heart is the main dining room: not only for its global menu that ranges from Tuscany to Tokyo, but also for its two-level structure with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Does the fun end when the sun goes down? Absolutely not. Nightlife on board is designed to keep the energy high without being overwhelming. The most interesting offerings were the shows, which almost always take place at 10 p.m. (ship time), with the highlight being the Quintessence Duo, who use artistic choreography to showcase incredible juggling skills that demonstrate the couple’s strength and flexibility. But not to be outdone are the numerous variety shows with singers and dancers from all over the world, among which the talent of Mexico’s Alejandro Jauregui, the charisma and perfection of Rebecca Littlechild from the United Kingdom, and the powerful voice of Chelsee Jernigan stand out. Other must-see shows include Impact, which features percussion, dance (tango, flamenco, and a sort of hybrid), singing, Argentine bowling, and Luis Dalton, an Argentine who is a fourth-generation circus performer.
Don’t forget the stops on this journey that began in Cartagena, Colombia, and took us to Aruba, Curaçao, and Puerto Colón in Panama, with enough time in the first two to enjoy their incredible beaches and the warmth of their people.
If you prefer something more relaxed, the Crown & Castle English Pub offers the perfect cozy atmosphere for a beer and a chat, while Vintages is a must-visit for wine lovers. And for those who enjoy ending the night with good music, Club Twenty keeps the beat going until late.

Is this the right boat for relaxing and unwinding? Absolutely. One of the features I value most is the Solarium pool with its retractable glass roof. This means you can enjoy a dip and relax “outdoors” regardless of whether it’s drizzling outside. In addition, the boat offers activities that balance adrenaline and leisure:
- Miniature golf on the high seas: A fun classic to challenge the family with ocean views.
- Climbing wall: For those looking for a little physical activity with the best possible view.
- Poolside cinema: Watching a movie under the stars is one of those simple experiences that stays with you.
- Indoor cinema: To watch movies with all the comfort and amenities of a regular movie theater.

It is a somewhat more “human,” manageable, and elegant ship that allows you to enjoy your destinations with a level of comfort and visibility that you will hardly find anywhere else.
