Kiffin is the No. 1 option in the college football coaching carousel. LSU and Florida are two of the teams trying to hire him away from Ole Miss.
The No. 6 Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) may already have clinched a spot in the College Football Playoff for the first time even if they lose to Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl on Nov. 28. Ole Miss is off this week.

Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter wants a decision from Kiffin before the Nov. 28 Egg Bowl vs Mississippi State, according to On3.
But Kiffin said he has not received an ultimatum or deadline from Ole Miss regarding his future while making an appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show” on Nov. 18.
“That’s absolutely not true,” Kiffin said. “There’s been no ultimatum. Anything like that at all. I don’t know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there.”

Kiffin has been tied to the Florida and LSU openings since the Gators fired coach Billy Napier and the Tigers fired coach Brian Kelly in October.

Lane Kiffin’s ex-wife Layla moved to Oxford this year from California with son Knox, who is a sophomore quarterback on the Oxford High School football team.
Kiffin’s oldest daughter, Landry, is a student at Ole Miss who dates LSU football player Whit Weeks. Kiffin’s middle daughter Presley is a freshman outside hitter on the Southern Cal indoor volleyball team.
Theo Von wants Lane Kiffin to stay at Ole Miss
Comedian Theo Von is a friend of Lane Kiffin. Von was with him for son Knox Kiffin’s Oxford High football playoff game Nov. 14 and joined Kiffin for “The Walk” in the Grove before the Ole Miss vs Florida game Nov. 15.
After Kiffin invited Pat McAfee to join him sometime for “The Walk” at Ole Miss, Von responded on X.
“Its lit in the ‘sip,” Von wrote. “I didn’t think it was. I was wrong. they got a beautiful future on the grill down there. I hope Lane stays.”

Ole Miss football defensive lineman Will Echoles will go hunting on the open week. Wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling will watch TV. Patrick Kutas has no plans yet, but his weekend will probably include visiting the shooting range.
Getting out and doing something will be a good way to keep players’ minds’ off Oxford’s biggest question: What will coach Lane Kiffin do?
“Obviously you are going to have people talking about it and bringing it up, but like I said, we all know what we have to achieve and what we have to get done,” Kutas said Nov. 18. “Really, you’ve got to get off social media.”

What is Lane Kiffin’s salary and why did his contract get extended?
Ole Miss’ win against Oklahoma on Oct. 25 triggered an automatic contract extension for Kiffin.
Because it was Ole Miss‘ seventh regular season win, Kiffin’s state contract with the Ole Miss Athletic Foundation will be automatically extended one year on Jan. 1, 2026. Kiffin’s contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2031.
The added year will be worth $9 million with $7.2 million guaranteed.
Kiffin’s $9 million salary is tied for No. 6 in the SEC.
Lane Kiffin buyout
As of Dec. 1, 2025, if Ole Miss fires Kiffin without cause, he would be set to receive $36.6 million.
It is the No. 15 most expensive buyout out of the 105 USA TODAY Sports could review and No. 7 in the SEC.
