The City of Walla Walla currently has openings on multiple advisory groups, which help shape city policies and decisions.
There are vacancies on the Sustainability Committee, the Water & Wastewater Committee, the Arts Committee, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, the Community Development Block Grant Advisory Group, the Infrastructure Improvement Committee, the Parks, Recreation and Urban Forestry Advisory board, the Planning Commission and the Public Library Board of Trustees.
That is a long list of opportunities for citizens living within the city limits to participate in local government, and it doesn’t even include all the city’s advisory boards, committees and commissions.
There are 15, by the way.
Those boards assemble groups of people with shared interests or expertise, ensuring that their recommendations are well-informed.
It’s one thing to go to a City Council meeting and weigh in on a topic or play armchair quarterback at the dinner table or on social media, but nothing beats playing proactive role in local government.
We encourage readers to look into city advisory boards and commissions to see if any of them sound interesting, and to apply and get involved in local decisions.
