Airlines issued advisories as dense fog continued to affect flight operations in parts of north India. On Thursday, SpiceJet cautioned passengers about potential disruptions to flight operations due to bad weather and dense fog in Delhi.

All departures, arrivals, and consequential flights may be impacted, advising passengers to check their flight status on its website.

“Due to bad weather (dense fog) in Delhi (DEL), all departures, arrivals, and their consequential flights may be affected. Passengers are requested to check their flight status via https://spicejet.com/#status,” the airline wrote on X.

Air India warned that potential dense fog conditions over the next few days could lead to poor visibility and impact flight operations at its primary hub in Delhi, as well as at a few airports in northern and eastern India, with a cascading effect across its network.

In an advisory issued on Wednesday, Air India urged travellers, especially during the ongoing holiday season, to check their flight status before heading to the airport. The airline said it has taken several proactive measures to mitigate fog-related disruptions, including operational planning and enhanced coordination on the ground.

“To help plan your travel better, especially during the holiday season, may we request you to check your flight status at https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html before heading to the airport. For your convenience, Air India has taken several proactive measures to mitigate the fog-related disruptions (https://bit.ly/4agYVyF). However, despite our efforts, if dense fog leads to sudden cancellations or prolonged delays, our ground colleagues will be available round-the-clock to assist you and make alternative arrangements,” it wrote on X.

“In addition, our ‘FogCare’ initiative allows passengers, booked on flights that are likely to be affected during the fog window, to receive advance alerts on their registered phone numbers, with the option to change their flights without any extra payment, or seek a full refund on the bookings without any penalty,” it added.

The airline appealed for patience and cooperation from travellers, reiterating that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain its top priority as it manages weather-related operational challenges.

Earlier on Wednesday, IndiGo also issued a travel advisory stating that low visibility and fog over Chandigarh had impacted flight schedules. The airline said it was closely monitoring weather conditions and requested passengers to stay updated on their flight status through its website or app, assuring assistance from its teams during the disruption.

    Delhi AQI Remains ‘Very Poor’

According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)’s Sameer app, Delhi’s AQI was recorded at 356 in the ‘very poor’ category, as of 6:00 am on Thursday.

Anand Vihar recorded the highest AQI at 415 in the ‘severe’ category, followed closely by Vivek Vihar (410), Jahangirpuri (405), Rohini (400), ITO (399), Mundka (398) and Ashok Vihar (395). The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Najafgarh was recorded at 284, placing it in the ‘poor’ category.

An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’.
