The official College Football Playoff bracket is still days away, but Tuesday night’s rankings could serve as the answer to some of the biggest questions remaining.
Few questions are more pressing than the dynamic between Miami and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have recently been ranked ahead of the Hurricanes, who missed the ACC championship game by a tiebreaker, but Miami has a head-to-head win over Notre Dame and has made the case it should be in the field as an at-large.
With no more games for either team to play, Tuesday’s rankings should serve as the final determination in that debate.
Elsewhere, fans will be watching to see how far Texas A&M falls after suffering its first loss of the season. The Aggies are widely expected to fall out of a top-four seed, but will they drop below Oregon and Ole Miss?
BYU, Texas and Vanderbilt all won their final regular-season game, seemingly keeping the pressure on in their chase for playoff bids, but the lack of movement by teams ahead of them is likely to keep them out of the field, barring a surprise on Tuesday. The Cougars are the only ones from that trio who control their fate, as they can punch their ticket by knocking off Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship game.
