The final week of the college football regular season is always special because of all the rivalry games that take place. This year, there’s the bonus of a lot of big games having plenty on the line in the College Football Playoff race.
Of course, Ohio State at Michigan takes center stage on Saturday, but there’s also an Iron Bowl with Alabama needing to win to stay in a playoff spot, an Egg Bowl stuffed with the Lane Kiffin coaching drama and plenty more games with good storylines.
Beyond the rivalry theme, this week is filled with multiple top-15 teams playing away from home. There weren’t any massive upsets last week, but it doesn’t seem likely that all the top teams will go unscathed again.
No. 1 Ohio State is a 10-point favorite on BetMGM for its game at Michigan. The Buckeyes were favored by nearly three touchdowns last year and lost at home. After four straight losses, including last year’s shocker, no one should be that surprised to see Michigan win again, but the Buckeyes are still solid favorites.
Elsewhere in the Big Ten, Oregon is a 7-point favorite at Washington. The 10-1 Ducks could still be in the playoff with a loss, but would certainly be in with a win.
Of the six SEC teams with CFP realistic aspirations, five of them are playing away from home. On Friday, Ole Miss is favored by 7.5 points at Mississippi State, Georgia is a 13-point favorite against Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and Texas A&M is only favored by 2.5 points at Texas. The Aggies are the last undefeated team in the SEC, but their seven conference wins have all come against teams in the bottom eight of the SEC standings. Texas is A&M’s first SEC opponent with a winning record in the conference.
Alabama is a 5.5-point favorite at Auburn, which is fitting because five of Auburn’s six losses this year were by one score. Vanderbilt is on the fringes of the playoff race, but has to win at Tennessee first, and the Vols are favored by 2.5 points.
Oklahoma is in good shape to make the CFP as long as the Sooners take care of LSU. The Sooners are favored by 10.
The road theme continues for Miami, which goes to Pitt as a 6.5-point favorite. Pitt has a chance to make the ACC title game after beating Georgia Tech on Saturday. Miami is still hoping to squeeze into an at-large berth (or get a ton of help in ACC tiebreakers to also make the title game).
