BBC One DJ Greg James has exposed Sandra Bullock for being one of the most awkward celebrities he has ever encountered after she refused to shake his hand during an interview
As one of BBC Radio One’s most sought after DJs, Greg James has probably met the good and the great of Hollywood in his time. But one interview with a Hollywood celebrity left him feeling rather uneasy, which unfortunately has been etched in his memory, as one of the most awkward interviews to date.
While on JaackMaate’s Happy Hour podcast, the radio presenter, 39, revealed that during an interview with Hollywood actress Sandra Bullock, he was left feeling a little weird after she refused to shake his hand during their initial introduction.
And the reason she gave, was that her child had fallen ill. He explained on the podcast: “I remember Sandra Bullock refused to shake my hand.”
He said: “So she said, it was a junket interview, and they’re really stressful, aren’t they? They’re horrible. Yeah, four minutes. Go and speak to Meryl Streep. “
Noticing Sandra Bullock, he went on to add: “I went to shake her hand, and she said, ‘I’m not shaking hands today, my kid’s not very well.’ What?”
He continued: “She thought that germs were going to be from her kid’s mouth, into her hand, into my hand, and then I’d be ill with Sandra Bullock’s kid’s flu.”
It’s remains unknown when the encounter took place but according to his demeanour on the podcast, he appeared to still be taken aback by her reason to avoid bodily contact.
And he desperately wished that she had “been honest” with her reason to not shake his hand. He went on to explain: “The way I’m seeing that, she could either be being really nice and she’s trying to protect you from the kid’s illness.”
But unconvinced he added: “Or she could be really bitter. And be like, ‘someone’s made my kid ill, so I’m not shaking strangers’ hands again’.”
Within moments, fans rushed to the comment section to voice their opinion. One person said: “Completely valid. She doesn’t wanna make you sick.” Meanwhile another person added: “There are some stories you don’t have to share.”
And a third chimed in saying: “I think Greg’s being weirdly sensitive about it. She meets a tonne of people that day. Her kids are sick. She’s either concerned she will spread it amongst every person she shakes hands with or concerned the 40 plus people that will interview her will give her something to spread. It’s hardly a case of she looks at you and doesn’t like you like Greg seems to suggest.”
Following the lengthy thread unfolding, a fourth added: “What’s an issue with him sharing this story?” In his role Greg has rubbed shoulders with a host of high profile names and was recently invited to Taylor Swift’s wedding with Travis Kelce.
Last month it was revealed during a live segment of his show that he had been honoured with an invite. Following a conversation about her fiancé, Greg was quick to ask: “Woah, woah. Am I coming?”
And this prompted Taylor to reply saying: “obviously”. But she was careful to not provide any further detail and ensured that he will find out more closer to the date.
