IIT Madras launches platform to bridge information gap in startup ecosystem

To make verified information about India’s startup ecosystem freely accessible, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras), on Tuesday launched its Startups for All initiative.

Developed by the institute’s Centre for Research on Start-ups and Risk Financing (CREST), in collaboration with YNOS, an IIT Madras-incubated firm, the platform seeks to address the widespread problem of fragmented and unreliable startup data.

“Information asymmetry has long been one of the biggest barriers for founders,” said Thillai Rajan A, head of CREST. “Our goal is to level the playing field by giving not just to every entrepreneur but to every citizen… equal access to critical information that can help them make better decisions, attract the right investors, scale their ventures effectively, and engage with the relevant startup.”

According to a statement issued by IIT Madras, the digital platform hosts information on over 2,75,000 startups, 15,000 angel investors, 5,500 venture capital firms, 1,400 incubators, 800 banks, and 110 government schemes, making it one of the most comprehensive startup databases in the country.

The platform offers search and analytics tools to help users identify relevant investors, compare growth and funding trends, and generate tailored outreach reports. Initial access is free, with users receiving credits to explore data before moving to a micro-payment model instead of hefty subscriptions.

The project also aims to support early-stage entrepreneurs, students, and researchers who often face challenges in finding credible information about investor networks or government schemes. IIT Madras said the platform could play a key role in fostering inclusive growth as India’s startup economy expands beyond metros.
