Ahead of the Congress Working Committee meeting, party MP Gaurav Gogoi says, “There are many issues of national importance to be taken up. What this government plans to do with respect to the MGNREGA would put lakhs of labourers at risk. I think that is a very dangerous goal the BJP government has set for itself, and we will do everything possible to obstruct this goal.”
He adds, “Under Himanta Biswa Sarma’s rule, corruption and misrule have been exposed on a daily basis. Every day, you see news of some MLA from his cabinet for the wrong reasons – sometimes involved in cow trafficking, sometimes threatening someone over the purchase of land, sometimes linked to the illegal sand mafia or coal mafia, and even questions over someone’s citizenship. There is an MLA in the Himanta Biswa Sarma government whose credentials as a Bangladeshi have come under question. There are many such questions that he himself has been unable to answer.”
