King returns home after UAE visit

JOHOR BARU: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has returned home after completing a two-day special visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s Facebook page yesterday, His Majesty arrived at the Senai International Airport at 9.20am and was welcomed by Johor State Secretary Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman, Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani and Comptroller of the Royal Household of Johor Kol (Rtd) Datuk Mohamed Perang Musa.

Sultan Ibrahim’s special visit to UAE was at the invitation of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Zayed Al Nahyan.

His Majesty’s discussions with Sheikh Mohamed explored various opportunities for cooperation between Malaysia and the UAE in the fields of defence, investment and food security.

In a Bernama report, His Majesty’s visit to UAE reinforced bilateral ties and mutual respect between the two countries.

The King said the hour-long meeting at Qasr Al Bahr Palace in Abu Dhabi paved the way for a more strategic, forward- looking Malaysia-UAE partnership, with the one-on-one meeting with Sheikh Mohamed covering cooperation in economic, investment and food security matters.

“We also discussed various matters, including efforts to strengthen Malaysia-UAE defence cooperation,” the King said in the Facebook post.

His Majesty visited two advanced technology and manufacturing facilities under leading UAE defence conglomerate EDGE Group, namely NIMR and Caracal, in Abu Dhabi.

The King’s arrival at NIMR at the Tawazun Industrial Centre was welcomed by EDGE managing director and chief executive officer Hamad Al Marar, where he was subsequently briefed by EDGE Platform and Systems Cluster president Khaled Al Zaabi.

Following the visit to NIMR, His Majesty proceeded to Caracal, where he was welcomed on arrival by its chief executive officer Hamad Al Ameri.

NIMR specialises in the production of high-performance military vehicles, while Caracal is known for its small arms manufacturing.

During the visit to Caracal, His Majesty also demonstrated his marksmanship by firing a CSR-308 sniper rifle at a shooting range.
