IndiGo Flight Status Highlights: IndiGo Board Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta issued a video message late Wednesday, apologising for the recent disruption and assuring that the airline is working to identify the root cause of the large-scale cancellations that began on December 3. He said the board has decided to bring in external technical experts to work alongside the management, adding that every aspect of what went wrong will be examined and lessons will be learned. “I want to say very simply, we are sorry,” Mehta said, acknowledging passengers’ inconvenience and promising corrective action.
Delhi HC on IndiGo Flight Cancellations: Meanwhile, the Delhi HC sought an explanation from the Centre about how the situation spiralled into a “crisis”. The court said that the disruption was beyond the inconvenience and distress faced by stranded travellers. The disruption also raised concerns about the economic impact on India.

IndiGo’s Monopoly: IndiGo has monopoly over 63 per cent of the routes it covers. In all, Indian airlines fly around 1,200 domestic routes, of which IndiGo has over 950 routes in operation. Notably, though, nearly 600 — or 63 per cent — of these are monopoly routes, and about 200 (21 per cent) are duopoly routes where IndiGo has just one competitor, as per data analysed by aviation analyst and former network planner Ameya Joshi.
