Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday announced record cash rewards and government jobs for athletes from the state who win medals at the Olympic Games.

Under the new incentive scheme, a Karnataka athlete who wins a gold medal at the Olympics will receive ₹6 crore, while silver medalists will be awarded ₹4 crore and bronze medalists ₹3 crore.

The Chief Minister said the initiative is aimed at creating a strong sports culture in the state and motivating young athletes to aim for the highest level of international success.

“The purpose is that anyone from Karnataka should win gold or silver, it is possible. There should be a training goal. It is necessary,” Siddaramaiah said.

Siddaramaiah stressed that financial rewards alone are not enough and highlighted the importance of structured training programmes and clear performance targets. He added that the state government has also decided to offer government jobs to sportspersons, providing them with long-term security beyond their playing careers.

Karnataka Home Minister and senior leader G Parameshwara praised the government’s efforts, saying the state has created one of the strongest support systems for athletes in the country.

He highlighted that the Karnataka Olympic Association now has its own building at Kanteerava Stadium, a facility provided by the state government.

“The Chief Minister has provided a good building for the Kanteerava Stadium Olympic Association. As far as I know, no other Olympic organisation in the country has its own building,” Parameshwara said.

He also pointed out that Siddaramaiah personally holds the Sports Ministry, calling it a rare move that reflects the government’s seriousness about promoting sports.

“The Chief Minister himself is the Sports Minister. It is very rare for Chief Ministers to be Sports Ministers,” he added.
